Have Wild Brought Andrew Brunette On Board?
by Chris Thompson
7/5/01

Before any official release was issued by the Wild, we looked at Wild.com and saw the name Andrew Brunette listed among players "In The System." This was the first revelation that he had been acquired by the Wild and that Minnesota's anemic offense of last season, particularly the power play unit, has received a boost in the arm.

Brunette came up in the Washington Capitals system as a pretty highly touted prospect. He broke into the NHL in the 95-96 season, scoring three goals and three assists in 11 games. He spent two more seasons with the Caps, scoring 34 points in 51 games. Prior to the 98-99 season Brunette was acquired by the Nashville Predators in the Expansion Draft. He played one season for Nashville, scoring 11 goals and 20 assists in 77 games.

Prior to the 99-00 season Andrew moved on to another expansion team, having been traded to the Atlanta Thrashers for a 5th round pick. He scored 23 goals and 27 assists in 81 games his first year as a Thrasher, but had a nasty -32 +/- rating. Last season, his scoring dropped to 15 goals, but he added 44 assists for a career high point total of 59 in 77 games and improved his +/- to -5.
