Wild Sign Roman Voloshenko
2nd Round Pick From 2004 Agrees to Terms

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed LW Roman Voloshenko pronounced (voh-loh-SHEHN-koh) to a rookie contract.

"We are bringing a talented young offensive player into our system," said Risebrough.  "The signing of Voloshenko continues our team's philosophy of recruiting and building through the draft."

Voloshenko, 19 (5/12/86), was selected by Minnesota in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-1, 189-pound forward collected 16 goals and 13 assists in 38 games with Krylja Sovetov of the Russian 2 League last year. He was a plus-8 and recorded 22 penalty minutes. Voloshenko also added one assist in three playoff contests. The Brest, Russia-native tallied a pair of goals in six games as Russia lost to Canada in the gold medal game at the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championships.

He recorded 14 points (6-8=14) in 42 games with Krylja during the 2003-04 campaign. Voloshenko ranked tied for first in scoring at the 2004 Under-18 World Junior Hockey Championships with 11 points (5-6=11) in six contests. He tallied the game-winning goal in Russia's 3-2 win over the United States in the gold medal game.

As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
